TODAY IS THE DAY! Secret Lair X The Hobbit Release!

I have been anxiously anticipating this drop! Magic the Gathering (MTG) is a powerhouse in the TCG (trading card game) world. It has been around 33 years, and shows no sign of leaving. In June of 2023, MTG released their first Lord of the Rings collab, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth™. This collection took the internet by storm, and following that there was a Holiday Edition release in November of 2023. The OG Lord of the Rings collection solidified that this collab was here to stay. The seamless cohesiveness between the game and Middle Earth had players and collectors alike ripping packs to find the elusive The One Ring Card (which is now owned by Post Malone, who spent MILLIONS on it).

Based off the success of The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth™ release, MTG announced they were releasing The Hobbit: A Marvelous Mathoms™. This is a curated collection of stand alone mini sets. While, this collection doesn't have the capability to be full, playable deck, it does offer the ability to be great upgrades to your already existing decks. These cards are a perfect addition to your already existing Lord of the Rings Commander Decks!

Now let's talk artists. One thing about MTG is that it is known for having some of the prettiest artwork out there. I truly don't think there has ever been a miss when it comes to card design. For The Hobbit: A Marvelous Mathoms™, there are multiple artists that are credited.

First up we have Peter Diamond with the He Who Walks Unseen collection which follows Bilbo as he journeys through Middle Earth. Peter Diamond is a seasoned vet in the MTG world. His distinct style is clearly visible in his collection. My personal favorite is Windfall!

Up next is the Second Breakfast and Beyond collection. This drop consists of food tokens which highlights the coziness of Hobbit life in The Shire. This collection was brought to life by Raymond Bonilla, Ben Wootten, and Randy Gallegos. This spread is making me hungry just looking at it!

Over the Edge of the Wild is a very unique collection in this drop! The comic inspired art is so unique, especially within the Lord of the Rings world! Jordan Speer did a great job of bringing in his own flair to the world, while also maintaining the integrity of MTG and Tolkein's creation. I love the trolls so much ahhhhh!

Keeping the Dwarf theme going, Smaug's Spoils showcases ancient dwarven relics and treasures! The artists that make up this collection are David Astruga, Brandon L. Hunt, and Gaboleps.

My absolute FAVORITE collection has to be The Hobbit: Desolation. The art styles of Pig Hands & Scott Okumura, Septian Fajrianto, Zbigniew M. Bielak, Rafal Wechterowicz, and DZO collectively created the coolest, dark-ink style cards that depict threats that Bilbo Baggins faced outside of The Shire. I was immediately drawn to this style, and I honestly cannot choose a favorite of the bunch!

All in all, this collection is absolutely FIRE. I am so unbelievably excited to start ripping packs! I have been waiting patiently for this, and I am STOKED that The Hobbit: A Marvelous Mathoms™, has finally dropped and is ready for purchase now! I hope you are excited about this as I am! Happy playing and happy collecting! I love you, byeeee!
